About ThreePeace

ThreePeace was a band that broke down musical barriers, blending rock, reggae, and social commentary into a sound that became uniquely their own. With their infectious rhythms and thoughtful lyrics, the band made a lasting impact on the Michigan music scene and beyond.

At the heart of ThreePeace were Leftee and Big R, the dynamic songwriting duo. Leftee, known for his intricate drumming style, was the driving force behind the band’s rhythm. His drumming often drew comparisons to Stewart Copeland of The Police for its precision and flair. Leftee’s versatility also saw him playing bass and guitar on various tracks, while his lyrics often touched on themes of love, justice, and spirituality, giving the band's music emotional depth.

Big R, the lead guitarist, was a pioneer in developing a unique, heavy-driven guitar sound that influenced many guitarists. Never afraid to riff through the song with his cutting guitar, Big R's style blended rock, reggae, and other genres, creating a signature sound that became essential to ThreePeace’s identity. As the band’s primary guitarist and co-songwriter, Big R’s creativity and fearless approach to guitar playing shaped the band’s sound.

While the core of the band remained Leftee and Big R, ThreePeace saw several talented musicians come and go over the years. Raul (Paul Wagner) played a significant role in ThreePeace. He wrote the track “Use What Jah Gives You (In a Good Way)”, a standout song from Empire of the Sun album. Although Leftee played bass on Empire of the Sun album, Raul's contribution as a songwriter, rhythm guitarist completed the sound. His bass playing later became an integral part of the band’s live shows. Once Leftee returned to the drums, Raul played bass during ThreePeace's live performances.

Mr. X (Martin Sheehan), Leftee’s brother, stepped in as the drummer on Empire of the Sun album after Leftee was injured in a car accident. Mr. X was also well known as the drummer for the legendary Gene Pool, a popular band in Flint, Michigan during the 90s. His contributions to ThreePeace were essential, as he played a pivotal role in tracks like “A Little Reggae Rock” on For the Love of the Rastaman and helped shape the band's rhythm section on the entire Empire of the Sun album.

Jim Lorang, affectionately known as "Gilligan" for the sailor hat he wore on stage, joined ThreePeace as their final bass player for their last live shows. Jim's presence marked the conclusion of ThreePeace's live performances, bringing his own unique style to the band’s sound.

ThreePeace was known for their creative recording techniques, blending analog warmth with digital precision. Albums like For the Love of the Rastaman, Messengers of Thyatira, and Northern Shore showcased the band’s musical innovation while maintaining their soul and rhythm-driven core.

Throughout their career, ThreePeace was more than just a band; they were a voice for change. Their songs delved into themes of social justice, love, spirituality, and personal growth, leaving an impact on anyone who listened.

Though ThreePeace no longer performs, their legacy continues through Leftee’s solo project, Sheehan Land. This new chapter embraces a more mellow, Yacht Rock-inspired sound but retains the thoughtful lyricism and soulful rhythm that were hallmarks of ThreePeace.

Today, ThreePeace is remembered for their unique musical fusion, their powerful rhythms, and their deep, meaningful lyrics that continue to inspire listeners around the world.
